I usaually don't make a big fuss about Valentine's Day since my husband althought thoughtful and loving is not so great with romantic surprises. I always have very little expectations this way whatever comes about is better than nothing. 8 Comments By now I am sure many of you are well aware of the fact that I am pregnant, 22 weeks on Tuesday. I made the anatomy announcement via my Facebook and Instagram with the photos from a shoot we had. But just incase you do not follow me on my social networks or simply haven't realized; Im expecting a baby boy due 5/7. His name shall be Aarlen Isaias Medina, God willing! Yo no pido mucho. Soy una chica simple del Bronx. Un cuarto de baño lindo, con una tina y agua caliente.” La nueva InStyle de septiembre sale a la venta el 17 de agosto. Comprala ya! One should never give up " About hard times: "I live by the mantra that God never gives us things we can not handle. Not until something bad or difficult happens we really grow. ' On being a mother: "I'm like any mother. Feel the pressure of wanting to be a great mother and doing the right thing for my children. Up until then, I would have a chemical relaxer done every 6-8 weeks either, by my mother, aunt or beautician since I was 5 years old. Yes, I agree, five is indeed extremely young for any child to have their hair chemically processed. Unfortunately, for me I had curious George for an aunt who decided, she wanted to see what would happen to my hair if she used her left over relaxer on me. My natural virgin curls were murdered. I still loathe Aunt Curios George from time to time; can you sense it? LOL To my lament, my mother had no idea that she could of just stopped the pain staking and costly cycle that was about to begin; by simply letting the perm grow out. To add insult to injury, because I am Dominican it is common for girls to have their hair perm-ed. In addition, it isn’t rare for Dominican beauticians to categorize hair as either “good” or “bad”, My hair now fell under “bad”. With that being said, I will take a moment to educate all of you a bit. There is no such thing as “good” or “bad” hair. Here we go… these are a few of the appropriate and inoffensive descriptions for hair types and/ or textures Curly, Wavy, Kinky, Brittle, Coarse, Flat, Fine, Dry, Thin, Thick, Frizzy and Straight Now that we have that out of the way, I digress, since everyone around my mother and I were accustomed to perms my mother felt she was doing the right thing by continuing and maintaining the chemical process. I admit although always had a fresh blow out; there were numerous occasions where I badly yearned to have easy carefree curly hair like my cousins. My poor mother isn’t the only one to blame for my delay in quitting perms. After becoming a young adult, I never tried to educate myself on how you can get your hair back to its natural state. I pretty much assumed as well, that this was what I would have to do with my hair for the rest of my life. I highly doubt that if it wasn’t for the incident that gave me no other choice but to give relaxers a break I would have probably continued to perm my hair for a few more years. After going cold turkey and quitting perms in ‘06, I discovered that my new growth was pliable, soft and manageable CURLS ! You can’t even begin to imagine my excitement. Me? With curly hair? After crying, begging and even wishing on the stars up above , Me! I had curly hair! I would run the tips of my fingers through my hair all day just to feel and “check” that I really did have curls growing. In delight, that I may soon have curly hair I would even ask my friends and mother to check my new growth too. After almost a year of slow grow out process I decided to chop it all off to speed things up. I still hadn’t discovered or created a natural hair process. I would simply blow my hair dry with the comb attachment and then flat iron. As my hair began to grow longer, I would then do a wash and set only blowing the roots. It took what seemed like forever for all of the processed hair to completely grow out but once it did, I was in heaven. I no longer had two different textures of hair to work with and wash & go became my staple for occasions in which I wasn’t able to get to the salon. A few weeks ago while on twitter – my hub for informative sources; I discovered @CurlyNikki a natural hair guru and I could not be happier. After reading her blog http://www.curlynikki.com/ and viewing her pictures I now have learned new ways to manage and maintain my curly locks. I recently tried her Chunky Twist-n-Curl method and loved the results (see photo at the start of post). I had tried a similar twist method when my hair was shorter but it was a longer process. What I am looking forward to most is long, big beautiful healthy hair and teaching my daughter to love and embrace hers. For those of you who follow me on twitter and actually read my tweets, you know how I have been longing for a sequin blazer. I found two possible options, however one is a Garcia Sequin Blazer $88 and the other is a Kensie Jaket at$99.99. Now to some that may sound pretty reasonable or maybe inexpensive. However, for me, a budget fashionista that is out of the price range I was willing to spend. I do give myself a free pass every now and then for a splurge Item and I think that this sequin blazer maybe it. Of course, I will try to save as much as I can which is why I may go with the $99.99 Kensie Jacket, Three Quarter Sleeve Sequined Blazer from Macy’s. It is marked down from $128 and I will be using a coupon! Hopefully a 20% off and if I can locate it at one of my local Macy's I won't have to pay for shipping. What is with my latest obsession, a sequin blazer? Oh, I don’t know maybe that It can be either dressed up or down and that the possibilities are endless. Here is my take on 4 likely ways that I will be rocking this blazer… The first look: banded sparkle mini, shiny tank body suit, over the knee boots and gold accessories The second look: satin sheen military shorts, luminescent tank, high heel strappy sandal, with pewter accessories The third look: stretch skinny pants in sliver, lace racer-back tank, peep-toe booties and black accessories. The fourth look: Jersey tank slip dress in olive, lace front peep-toe bootie with gold accessories. Need less to say all will be finished off with the Sequin Blazer! Hello friends! I first want to apologize for being so distant and MIA the past few weeks. I have been uber busy playing project manager during the process of opening my women’s fashion accessories store. I know there are many bloggers who blog their every move and keep everyone up to date and posted with the happenings. Unfortunately, I have been far too occupied and tired to even try to create posts. However, I am more than happy to say that I am back and better than ever. Now that the business is officially up and running there will be many blog posts to come! We had our Grand Opening on Saturday and it went as smooth as it could have. I am extremely thankful and very appreciative of the friends and family that helped me bring it all together. I defiantly had a vision and a deadline and they helped me reach my goal. No good deed goes unnoticed. Sadly, as much as I anticipated, rather expected a larger showing and more friends and family to join me I extend immense gratitude to those who did make it their personal business to come and share the second biggest moment in my life; the first being the birth of my daughter Naliya. Nonetheless, I did it! I quit my job, opened my own business, went after my dreams & continue to do so… Please let me know what you would like to see more of on the blog and of any looks you need help with. I will be more than glad to assist. I decided to do a follow up to my last post just in case anyone was wondering about what I wore. I had made a purchase a few weeks after I gave birth to my baby girl back in January from ASOS.COM, which included a high waited black skirt and the dress I wore for my birthday. The dress is black and white leopard print on the front and plain black on the back. It’s a stretch spandex cotton material with double “Chris Cross” straps on the back. I did not know when I was going to wear that dress or even where, I simply thought to myself “it looks “hot” and I want it”. When it came down to birthday outfits it was definitely a contender among another ASOS choice, a black jumpsuit and my last option was a leather skirts with a cobalt blue one-sleeve top. After trying on all of my choices I went with the dress, feeling elated that I was able to get into a medium 8months after having a baby. The next task at hand was the SHOES! I knew I wanted a shoe boots or a sandal boot. Something a bit out of my comfort zone, that would also add the glam my dress was lacking. I searched everywhere, all websites and stores for this shoe I had imagined in my head. Then I found it when I was least expecting it at Nine West Outlet in Jersey Gardens Mall, Elizabeth, NJ. Do not let the word OUTLET mislead you, I felt I paid regular full price for these shoes but “what the hell it’s my birthday” I thought. I love everything about that shoe and felt it went perfectly with the dress; they were also surprisingly more comfortable than anticipated. I topped of my look with my version of a smoky eye and a normal blow out from a new salon I tried in South Paterson the day before. Enjoy! ![]() Wandaly, Natalia and Me(Alicia) You may or may not remember but about a month ago or so I received a styling request from my friend, Wandaly. She wanted an outfit to look “hot’ as she said to wear on her 24th birthday. You can see her Single, Sexy and Free look by clicking. I had chosen for her a pair of draped shorts and a blush corset top with a lace over lay. She didn’t end up going with the shorts but did find a skirt that gave the same feel. All she was missing was a top and a belt, this is where I came in. We went to Garden State Plaza(mall) and set out to find the perfect missing pieces. We went to stores I frequent like H&M, Baker’s, and Arden B. It was at Arden B where she found two black suede belts; she wanted a suede belt to go with her suede shoes, not that that’s something you have to do. One was a bit simple and toned down, didn’t make much of a statement and the other was the complete opposite. You all know I pushed her to pick that one. Why not? Your birthday is one of the very few days out of the year you get to go all out and be bold. I wanted to take this time to talk about how important undergarments are to your wardrobe. The right or wrong bra for that matter can make or break your outfit. The correct fit in a bra is essential in helping your look come together and look the way it should. Bras have a variety of purposes, for support, to improve the shape of breasts, to reduce or to enlarge the perceived breast size, to restrain breast movement during an activity such as exercise, to enhance their cleavage or to facilitate nursing. Most bras are designed to be form fitting and to lift the breasts off the chest wall if they sag and to restrain their movement. Bra designers strive to produce a garment that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. If your boobs are coming out of your bra or are not properly supported a top worn will not fit correctly. Seems will be out of line and distorted. Sometimes too much cleavage can look classless and at times even offensive. I really cannot come up with a reason as to why a woman would prefer or like to wear an ill-fitting bra. Besides looking unpleasant, it is also both very unappealing and uncomfortable. Women who wear under garments that are either too big or too small are simply doing an injustice to themselves and their fashion. My favorite kinds of bra are from of course Victoria's Secret... I think they are perfect. Perhaps on the higher end of your budget but still, definitely a great investment for your undergarment wardrobe. They have a wonderful fit and lift. They are like an instant breast lift and you can see an improvement right away. They are durable, long lasting and come in many different patterns, colors and prints. Every woman, should have at least three basic colors in her drawer, which are black, beige and white. The other two essential must have bras are a strapless and a racer back, to go with all of your tops and dresses. |
