some one hand my a blotting towelette lol
Many of you know of my hair dilemma, for those of you who do not I will explain. A few months ago I decided to dye the bottom half of my hair red and also added in a few red high lights in the front. The idea sounded great and I thought that since I had been dyeing my hair black for a few years now with no damage to my hair, I would be fine. Unfortunately 4 years after having gone natural the dye killed my curls. I no longer had wild, poofy, springy, bouncy curls. What I had was lifeless and limp hair that looked liked it had been processed with a chemical relaxer.

In reading many natural hair blogs, forums and asking natural hair gurus on Twitter I learned that my hair needed to be nursed back to good health with lots of moisture and protein. I did that for a few months but no luck. Then I thought a cut would help so I went to my local super cuts after having cut some hair myself and got a haircut. That did not work either, my hair still wouldn’t curl, my twist would not hold and worst of all it was breaking and falling like crazy.

I was determined to "Big Chop" now more than ever. I was waiting until my birthday weekend to do it, which thinking about it now was the worst idea ever nonetheless I went to Patricia from "Go Natural Caribe" in the Dominican republic as I was there for my birthday weekend. I have to say she is super sweet and very knowledgeable in the area of natural hair. I love the movement she is trying to do in the Dominican Republic, encouraging more women to go natural and embrace their hair.

I asked her to cut off everything that would not curl...
Do I love my new cut? NO! Quite frankly I straight out hate it, it is a lot shorter than I expected it to be but as it grows it will grow on me lol. I am making a huge sacrifice now because I know my hair is going to grow back in big, beautiful and healthy. Unfortunately it is going to be a very long wait but I am willing to wait.... again. It took me 4 years last time let's see how long it will take this time around.

I think you look stunning!! But I completely understand your frustration with your hair. All new hair cuts take some getting used to and by May your hair will have grown back so much. I did the big chop too. I'm always cutting my hair. I prefer healthy hair over length any day. You will just have to let this style grow on you and find the products that work for your hair. I think you look fabulous. Just wear huge earring and keep your eyebrows done (yours are fabulous). Not feeling feminine was the only thing I struggled with my wearing my hair so short. Hence the huge earrings!! Have fun with your new sophisticated look!

I actually really like it, Alicia. You have such a beautiful face. You can really carry a short cut like that. You betta work it. Do you watch Taren916? She is growing her hair out, but she rocked a short cut like yours for a while and it was FAB-U-LOUS!!! Girl, put on some fabulous accessories and rock it. Seriously, you are gorgeous and your eyes, and facial features are being showcased beautifully in that short cut. it is gonna take some time to get used too, I am sure... but from the outside looking in, you look great!

I really like your new haircut! But I totally understand what you're feeling. I already had short hair a few years ago when I decided to go natural with Big Chop 1. But Big Chop 2 was after letting my natural hair grow out for 2 years and I wasn't happy with the first or second haircut so I started over from scratch. I blogged about the experience, vlogged about it, cried and journaled (not exactly in that order). Do whatever you have to do to get over the hump, but I totally agree with Eboni, you are stunning and will totally rock the short hair movement! I'm just 4 months into growing my hair again, but I'm actually loving this length! Hang in there!

Thank you for all the wonderful compliments, love and encouragement. It's starting to grow on me although on Saturday it will only be three weeks since the cut. Man it feels like it is going to be a long two years lol. I have my moment where I like it and other thy I want to throw on a wig. Lol ok I have thrown on a wig. But in my defense it was for a special occasion lol. I will keep doing posts to show you all my progress and how I make it work.

Thank you all for commenting!
